Troop 103’s Scout Service Project: Bird Boxes at West Manheim Township Park – 2022

West Maheim Park Bird Box Map

Earlier this year, Troop 103 Star Scout, AJ Dubs and his volunteers spent over 21 hours on the bird box project by initially spending over 7 hours clearing brush around 44 bird boxes in the West Manheim Park located at 255 St Bartholomew Rd, Hanover, PA 17331. This allowed birds easy access to the bird boxes and to keep predators out.  It also helped bird lovers and wildlife enthusiasts observe the bird boxes.   AJ coordinated his efforts with Parks and Recreation Board Member Fred Walker.  Below are photos of AJ clearing brush around the bird boxes.

A few months later he numbered each bird box and mapped them so that people could find them easier and know which specific box might need maintenance. This will also help people to record what type of birds go in specific bird boxes.   Photos of this effort and the map of bird boxes are included further below.

Congratulations to AJ for his persistence and hard work on this project that will benefit the community.
