Scout Sunday 2010

Scout Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Today, as we celebrate Scout Sunday, we remember the beginning of the Scouting movement in the United States. This past Monday marked the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America and throughout those 100 years, the Boy Scouts have maintained a strong foundation of leadership, service, and community for millions of youth.

During this entire time, “The Boy Scouts have continued to reaffirm the belief that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God…” This commitment to God is reflected in both the Scout Oath and Law.

Scouting’s association with churches and religious organizations is common place across this nation. More than half of all troops are sponsored by religious organizations. The values of scouting and the church go hand in hand in our daily lives.

We would like to thank our sponsor, the Holy Name Society and the parish for your continued support of both the Pack and Troop.

On this day we also recognize those scouts who have earned a religious emblem.

Our religious coordinators Maureen Evich, and Stephanie O’Brien will join Father, to present the Ad Altare Dei Religious Emblems to scouts.

The English translation of “Ad Altare Dei” is “to the Altar of God.” The Ad Altare Dei is the very first emblem officially recognized by the Boy Scouts of America and was established back in 1926. The purpose of the Ad Altare Dei program is to help Catholic Boy Scouts develop a fully Christian way of life in the faith community. The most important aspect of the program is that the Scout grows spiritually in his relationship to God and the church.

Will the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward to receive their emblems.

  • Joey Cirabisi, Son of Donna and Frank Mills
  • Cullen Rosenbrien, Son of Stephanie O’Brien and Jeff Rosenzweig
  • James Rupp, Son of Louise and Michael Rupp
  • Please join in congratulating these scouts for their accomplishment.
