Eagle Scout Matthew Nawn – 2/16/2021

Eagle Scout: Matthew Nawn
This evening (2/16/2021) Troop 103 Life Scout Matthew Nawn was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, becoming Troop 103’s 87th Eagle Scout.

Mathew’s Eagle Scout Service Project was to lead others in restoring the PTC Snow Sweeper C-145 for the Baltimore Streetcar Museum.  The C-145 was built in 1923 and had been in great need of restoration as it neared its 100th anniversary.  Matthew’s project started in February 2019 and ended in September 2020.  Matthew encountered disruptions from the outset.  In May 2019 a CSX train derailment caused a 4 month closure at the the project site.

In 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic prevented Matthew from crossing into Maryland to reach his project site.  Matthew’s dedication and perseverance paid off; 1,200 volunteer hours later, photos & videos of a remarkable Eagle Project may be seen at https://www.baltimorestreetcarmuseum.org/donate/#c145

Matthew is a former Troop 103 Senior Patrol Leader and Scout of the Year.  He has been an usher at St. Vincent Church in Hanover for the past four years.  He is a student at Hanover High School, where is maintains a rigorous academic schedule, serves as class Secretary and is captain of the Brainbusters/Quizbowl Team.  He is an avid golfer and runs Track & Field in the spring.  Matthew aspires toward a naval career after ROTC/college.

Please join me in congratulating Matthew and in thanking the Baltimore Streetcar Museum, the Friends of Philadelphia Trolleys, donors, family members, friends, leaders, scouts and others who helped make these accomplishments possible.  Please enjoy the attached photo of our proud Eagle Scout!  Great job, Matthew!  Thank you,
